Also known as Moctezuma's Revenge, the correct, authentic meaning of "Montezuma's Revenge" regards the effects produced by the seasoned spicy Mexican food on foreigners, ranging from the effect of an unaccustomed, non connoisseur palate to chilli, to the stomachal consequences caused by the Mexican food. It has nothing to do with the concept of a developed country versus a
developing country and not with their hygienic habits. The latter two terms are derogatory and rather seek to
disqualify.
"Montezuma's Revenge" is not a disease. It is a "bad moment" that happens when a foreigner has never tasted chili or spicy food.
Its origin comes from Moctezuma, the
mexica emperor who met the spaniards, as he now gets revenge on the foreigners (mainly whites, because spaniards are white) for destroying his people.
